DPAWS is an adoption group that relies on donations for funding. The new facility on Callahan Road shelters all Wentzville Animal Control companion animals as well as owner relinquished pets. They do not have the facilities or volunteers to hold animals indefinitely. Animals that have health problems that affect their quality of life, or aggression problems may be euthanised. Occasionally they also have to euthanize animals because they run out of space.
Prospective adopters may visit the dogs and cats in the shelter, and spend time with them in the “Get Acquainted” area. Once you have found the right pet, you will be asked to complete a Pet Adoption Agreement. Then an appointment will be made to get your new pet vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Your pet will usually be ready to go home within 3-4 days post-adoption.
Animals will not be shipped. You must visit the shelter in person to adopt a pet.The adoption fee for all cats and dogs is $120.
All adopted animals are given vaccinations, surgically sterilized, heartworm tested (for dogs), FLV tested (for cats), and checked for parasites. You will also receive a coupon for 50% off a bath, dry and nail trim at Dardenne Animal Medical Center spa
DPAWS is the holding facility for all companion animals picked up by Wentzville and O'fallon Animal Controls. All lost, stray and abandoned animals are held for five days, excluding Sundays and Holidays. If you have lost a pet, we urge you to visit the shelter to look for your pet.
If you find a lost, stray or abandoned animal in Wentzville, you should contact Wentzville Animal Control at (636) 327-5105 to have the animal picked up.
In order for the shelter to accept an owner surrendered pet all of the following criteria must be met:
1. The pet must be spayed/neutered.
2. The pet must be current on vaccinations.
3. You must donate $100 to cover part of the cost of caring for your animal while it is at the shelter.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A NO-KILL SHELTER.
DPAWS is located at 1092 Callahan Road in Wentzville. The building is dark green and located near the Old Time Pottery entrance to The Mall at Wentzville Crossings (formerly Belz Factory Outlet).
